History of Middleton
Middleton was given its name as it sits halfway between Keeney's Ferry and the historic fort Boise. Those traveling to Keeney's Ferry used it as a 'midpoint'! Early on in the Oregon Trail's history, it featured a stage stop, a post office, and a water-powered grist mill.
Given that William N. Montgomery divided up the property in 1863, Middleton is the county's oldest settlement. The town relocated to a new position in the years following 1880 as a result of the Boise River flooding in 1872 and cutting a new channel that isolated the settlement on an island. The community became a city in 1910.
Middleton is currently growing fast. Its population has nearly doubled during the past 10 years. Many of the new residents are coming from major cities and states like Nevada and California. The locals like the serenity while still being near popular city malls.
